Liberty Garden Products 840-1 Residential Grade 4-Wheel Garden Hose Reel Cart with 250-Foot-Hose Capacity Review

Good design but poorly made in China. 1) The first thing you'll notice is the stench of the "rubber" tires. This goes away after a couple of weeks. 2) The central component, the brass swivel/o-ring fitting at the leader hose/reel hub attach point, was too short. I had to disassemble it in order to get a wrench on the fitting to tighten it. Not too difficult if you have the correct retaining ring pliers. 3) The metal wasn't properly cleaned before powder coating, so large pieces flake off when you tighten the nuts and bolts during assembly. 4) There is no friction device on the reel, so the reel continues to spin after you pull on the hose, causing the hose to uncoil on the reel. 5) The hoops on the reel are full of welding slag, which makes an interesting tumbling sound when you turn the reel. 6) The leader hose is stiff and cheap.

After purchasing several cheap plastic hose reels, I thought I'd step up to the "real deal". Only two things on this unit that I can complain about. 1) the pneumatic wheels are total junk and will not hold air and will eventually leak and be useless. I contacted the company to see about replacements. They sent me two "new" wheels that looked almost as crappy as the first set. Tried to air one of them up and it leaked before I could even put it on!! So I'll be sourcing hard tires for it. 2) They should have made the center spool solid with a rolled piece of sheet metal instead of the rungs. When rolling up the hose, the rungs cause the hose to pinch almost completely off, restricting water flow.

Melnor 15MQC 4-Piece Garden Hose Quick Connect Kit Review

I have a box in the lawn with a spigot in it.The spigot points down at the bottom of the box, and it's plastic.Two problems with that... one, it's a royal pain to thread the hose on there properly; and two, it's plastic - I was concerned that a single cross-threaded attempt would start to destroy the plastic threads on the spigot.

Then I stumbled upon this in a store while looking for something else - it's great!No more peering down into that dark box trying to see if the threads are going on straight, just click and spray!The spigot is hooked to the irrigation system and doesn't pass through the pressure reducer in the house, so very high pressure - and this thing doesn't leak a bit.Highly recommend it.

Claber AquaPass Garden Hose Cassette 8974 Review

Good materials:

Poor assembly: (it flew into five pieces on first attempt to unreel and, even being better than average at mechanical skills, it took ten minutes of creative frustration to figure out how they went back together and tighten down the friction-fit pieces the way they should have been tightened at the factory (same for the end fittings). I'm still unsure of whether the slip washers are in the right position, but it seems to be holding together.

Lousy Fit: There are four fittings (snap fittings and threaded fittings) and all are either proprietary Clabor design (or, possibly, metric) so they fit no standard English threaded garden faucet or standard English nozzles, sprinkers, couplings etc. Even their snap-fittings are non-standard and don't allow purchase of supposed equivalent snap-fittings from your big-box garden supply. Even if they would fit, it comes with no standard threaded male termination to the business end of the hose (and the female end, being non-standard, fits nothing either), so your stuck going back to Clabor for everything you use (including hooking it up to any faucet in the first place) If it's metric, it might work in Europe.
As sending this proprietary rip-off back is more effort than its worth and material quality seems good, I'll retrofit all the end pieces with standard fittings for about an added $10 and a trip to the big box, but never buy Clabor unless you are redoing your whole home, garden and garage in Clabor products, love do your own hardware retro-fitting and/or own their stock.

There should be a warning on this product.

This hose looks pretty, but that's the only compliment I'd give it.The vinyl is just not pliable, and since it seems to retain its wound-up profile, there are always 2-3 kinks in the line when you stretch it out.I also couldn't get a good tight seal on the fittings, either when connecting to another hose or to a nozzle.This hose was a complete waste of money.

Apex 7500-50 Light Duty 1/2-Inch by 50-Feet Garden Hose Review

This is a cheap hose that gets the job done short term.
The worst part of the hose is that the female end comes with
a really cheap plastic grommet. If it doesn't seat just perfectly the
first time you screw it on it WILL leak like crazy no matter how tight
you screw it.
A new rubber hose grommet from the hardware store is a quick fix
(A whole pack of em is usually about a buck or so) and turned this
unusable hose into a leak free low budget hose.

You can't go wrong by purchasing a USA-made product these days, hoping to help make our economy stronger.I can tell by comparing this Flexon hose to the last hose I purchased - which also had a Lifetime Warranty but was made by a different hose manufacturer - that this Flexon is made so much better.I have been using it a month and it has not kinked yet.The brass fittings are of superior quality and I like that the coupling is made larger for a better grip when tightening it onto the spigot (see the picture I uploaded).

If you do have an issue with the warranty, it requires you cut off both ends of the hose and mail those 2 pieces back to the manufacturer, along with the defective section of the hose.You will also need your receipt and the piece of cardboard from the hose stating it comes with a lifetime warranty.

This is not labeled as approved for drinking water but it also does not say it contains lead.The warning says:Do not drink from this hose.Garden hoses can come in contact with harmful chemicals sometimes, used with nozzles, garden sprayers or chemicals used on lawns.The inside of the hose is dark, damp, and warm, causing bacteria to form.It is recommended that you run water through the hose until the water is cool before use.

Since I don't drink out of my garden hose, this is a non-issue with me.

In my many years of gardening experience, Gilmour products usually are of very good quality, and I will almost always pick a Gilmour product over another brand.But, they do produce a defective product at times.This year, two hose nozzles (out of several) became defective, and a simple email got me replacements within days (NO HASSLE!!).I think if a hose became defective (lifetime warranty), you may have to send the brass couplings to them to get a replacement.So for, I've never had a defective Gilmour hose, and they provide many years of service.

Worth every penny, why didn't we buy this sooner?!At our horse barn we have running water, but kept getting our feet wet trying to wash our hands. Our kids were constantly soaked.We mounted this sink to piece of plywood, then a 4x4 post, ran the drain tubing into a 10 foot piece of pvc to further remove the run off and voila!No more mud puddle or wet kids!The only complaint I might have is that it is small/narrow, and the hose nozzle we had stuck out 1/2 way into the bowl.We ended up taking that off, and when you need to wash your hands you turn the water on low, step back to the sink and wash, the step back over and turn the water off.Adults can use a hose with the nozzle but it's too much to get on for small children.To the manufacturer I would suggest making it wider left to right and adding a sunken indentation for a bottle of soap?We just leave ours in the bowl.

Colorite Contractor WC7534075 Professional 3/4-Inch x 75-Foot Brick Garden Hose Review

This review was taken from elsewhere on the web but precisely voices my opinion.I have 3 of these hoses, all of which have developed "aneurysms" in one or more places, several of which have burst and needed repair.I have one hose which now has 3 such bulges, having already repaired an earlier split. I strongly recommend against purchasing this hose or its 50 foot equivalent.

"DO NOT BUY. I have had it up to here with this hose, it made my watering awful and I had to throw it out. This is a junk Goodyear product and they should be ashamed to put their name on it. I bought this so called "industrial" hose thinking it would replace my American Standard "contractor" hose from 10 years ago (also 3/4", also terra cotta color). The quality is nowhere comparable. There is no quality. This hose constantly kinks, even when you take great pains to untwist it all the time. It is rigid and not flexible, which is what makes it kink so much. Every time you pull it it will kink. It will even kink if you pick it up and pull it without any twists, in your hand, unless it is full of water. Once it kinks once or more in the same place, it will eventually puncture. Mine punctured in three places. And, it cannot be repaired, because the 3/4" diameter is too wide for the 1/2" - 3/4" repair kits in the stores. I tried four different types of kits before I threw the hose out.Around 10 years ago I bought an American Standard "contractor grade" hose from Home Depot with the same appearance. That hose wintered outside in the snow, was capable of being driven over on a gravel driveway, and lasted 9 years before it sprung a single leak. This hose lasted 6 weeks before it sprang a leak. This is a cheap, junk product."

Claber 8410 Aquadue Duplo Dual Hose Water Timer Review

I bought this unit to water two zones of crops. I had not seen any other timers that had dual outputs, and would much prefer the integration of having to only program one unit.This unit did the trick.

I was pleased at the quality construction of the unit.The hose thread went on easily to my spigot with no leaks.I have very strong water pressure of 120psi and this unit is rated to 150psi so no problem there. There are quick releases for the lower portion, which again, is wonderful since you don't have to contort you hand to get on the hoses.

The unit is heavy, so you want to ensure your spigot portion is well supported.failure to support your unit could cause issues down the road.In my case, I had the orbit 4-port manifold attached, and this has a metal frame bracket exactly to do this purpose.

The timer itself has 6 settings, however only 3 can be used for each line.So if you have more than 3x/day water for your zone, this is not the unit for you!Fortunately I only needed 2x a day for each zone.It was a little complex at first to figure out how to program but didn't take long to master.Note the LCD does NOT detach from the housing, at least not easily.

Unit is powered by a 9V battery which supposedly will last a year. I tested by removing the 9V and replacing quickly -- the settings WERE retained, which is a blessing so you don't have to worry about reprogramming each time you put new batteries in.

The unit has a rain-gauge port and I did purchase the rain gauge unit as well.It hasn't rained so I cannot attest to the effectiveness but it was easy to install.

You might also want to know that the valves are smooth turning rather than abrupt -- this means the water cuts off slowly rather than slams the valve shut immediately.Extremely important factor for old homes with piping that hammers when the water valve suddenly closes. Very nice!

Overall, I'm pleased with the unit. It would've been nice if the LCD detached, but other than that I'm happy with it.

In previous two years we have purchased 4 Reel-Smart hose reel units (dist by mfgr Hydro Industries) and now this No-Crank unit (still mfgd by Hydro, but distributed under the Suncast label). The rewind mechanism is ingenious, with its water-pressure powered 3-piston hydraulic pump. The unit works well, but I underscore these requirements, lest you think the unit is malfunctioning and head back to the store with it. First, READ THE BROCHURE that comes with the unit and strictly comply with Hydro's recommendations: Use not heavier than medium duty, vinyl or plastic (NOT rubber) 5/8" hose; Do NOT exceed hose length or width specified for your unit; Prior to pulling hose out of the No-Crank, make sure rewind control handle is in REST position, and hose is NOT pressurized; Prior to rewinding, turn water supply OFF and open hose nozzle; Straighten out the hose to be rewound, then pick up nozzle end and set it down near the No-Crank to reduce hose drag force; Move the rewind control to REWIND, then turn on water supply to activate rewind mechanism. As the nozzle gets within a couple feet of fully retracted, turn off water supply, and reset rewind control to REST. You'll be impressed with how this little regimen enables your No-Crank to work like a champ for the long haul. Yard Butler HT-2EZ 2-Wheeled Garden Hose Truck with 200-Foot Hose Capacity Review

We have had several hose trucks/hose reels over the years.We like this one better than most.The connection point where the garden hose connects to the reel is one of the best I have seen.It allows for smooth curling of the hose around the reel without kinking or bending the hose.There are two things I would do differently if I designed the truck.The front of the hose truck has "U" shaped metal tubing that rests on the surface to help stableize the unit.This is not a good design because it allows contact with the surface which will wear the paint off the metal and cause the metal to rust.Ruber bumpers would help with that problem.The wheels are mounted using nuts and bolts through some thin metal tubing.If the cart is moved much at all this will be a weak spot.Thicker tubing and a solid rod from one wheel to the other would solve the problem.

The Gardena system of hose / faucet / accessory connectors works very well.Two years ago, a neighbor introduced me to the Gardena system and raved about how well it worked.He regularly uses various connectors,valves, attachments, etc. and is totally satisfied.Based on hisrecommendation, I went out to my local home and garden store and bought afull compliment.

Gilmour 10 Series 8 Ply Flexogen Hose 1/2 Inch x 75 Feet 10-12075 Green Review

After trying all kinds of hoses over the years, I think this one is the Holy Grail. All of other hoses I've tried kinked. Period. And continual kinking of the same areas eventually lead to bursting hoses, which means my "hose fix kit" keeps making the usable hose shorter and shorter, until finally I have a spigot with a sprayer directly attached to it. But low and behold, reading the reviews of Gilmour Flexogens, you simply can't go wrong here. May cost more up front, but if there's EVER a problem with the hose, snip the ends, send it to Gilmour, tell them how long you want, and they'll send you a replacement. Period. No questions asked, no reciept. Just a "have a good day" and you're off spraying your neighbor's cat again. Also, I used to use 3/4" hose because we have very good water pressure out of the spigot, but I figured with the warranty the 1/2" would work. I'd very highly recommend this, as the 1/2" works PERFECTLY, plus it is much more lightweight. This hose is somewhat "heavy" compared to the others I've tried/felt, but compared to getting sprinkled in the face from hose-kink-holes of previous hoses, that is by no means a complaint. You know that cowboy lasso dance you used to do when holding the sprayer and trying to turn the hose so that the hole is facing the grass instead of spraying you. You know.. that dance that has one of your shoulders either really veiny and striated, or else ripped your rotator cuff. Well you can kiss all of that goodbye. The quality of this hose is no joke. From the threaded connectors which feel heavy and do not bend around the hose like most others, to the 8 ply hose itself which just doesn't kink. Now... is it me, or should Gilmour start making cars, TVs, and Vacuum Cleaners?

Gilmour 15 Series 4 Ply Reinforced Vinyl Hose 5/8 Inch x 25 Feet 15-58025 Green Review

In my many years of gardening experience, Gilmour products usually are of very good quality, and I will almost always pick a Gilmour product over another brand. But, they do produce a defective product at times. This year, two hose nozzles (out of several) became defective, and a simple email got me replacements within days (NO HASSLE!!). I think if a hose became defective (lifetime warranty), you may have to send the brass couplings to them to get a replacement. So for, I've never had a defective Gilmour hose, and they provide many years of service.

We bought five of these short (25 feet) hoses for some light duty.They are 4-ply, but you should get 6-ply for heavy duty use.

Gilmour FX6 Faucet Extension and Flow Control Teal Review

The stake and knob are OK, the knob is still just a quarter turn from zero to full pressure, so its not as nice as using an actual faucet.

The short hose that is included had VERY leaky connections to anything I tried to connect it to. Since the whole idea is to leave the faucet at the house side on all the time so that you don't have to dig through the foliage, its very disappointing, the hose will be leaking constantly.

I really liked this hose at first and actually ordered another one.After about 2 weeks of use however, the little holes at the beginning of the hose started getting bigger from the water pressure.Now I have to watch for the position of the hose because it's spraying a much wider area now at that point.I would imagine that those holes will continue to get bigger and then the rest of the hose won't receive enough water to make it useful.

I have sold hoses similar to this at home shows before, and here are some of the distinctions which aren't obvious at first glance.
It is exceptionally strong material, and it does hold it's recoil ability.
The measured length is at maximum stretch. Because of the recoil ability it takes a little muscle to get there.
When it's full of water, the weight effects the recoil ability.
The transparent quality of the hose actually lets light inside and can allow the growth of algae.
It is a very clean material and is suitable for drinking water.
It has a higher PSI rating than most hoses which means it's good under pressure.
A few of them together make a decent solar water-heater.
The material is polyurethane. There are good polyurethane adhesives which will seal punctures you might get in the hose.
One of the other reviews stated that the water pressure wasn't sufficient. There are larger diameter versions of this type of hose available.

Reel King RK-6000 Self-Retracting Hose Reel with 65 feet of 1/2-inch Garden Hose Review

I would have given this product a 5 star review if it had lasted more than a few months.Initially it worked great just as advertised. It made recoiling the hose quick and easy.But, after just one summer of normal backyard usage I started to have problems with it.The spring that draws the hose back into the housing must have started to wear out because gradually more and more effort was required to guide and push the hose back into the housing.Also, it began to drip water from a leak inside the housing.In sum, I think this is a really great product design that is unfortunately cheaply manufactured in China.

Dramm 9 Pattern Revolver Garden Hose Nozzle Review

I bought one of these Dramm nozzles 3 or 4 years ago at a nursery. Recently it started leaking so I have to replace it, but I must say, it's a very good product overall. The various nozzle options produce a variety of useful sprays. The one for "soaker" puts out a nice, soft, aerated spray that's ideal for watering plants in pots without blasting the dirt around. The "jet" is a really strong blast that's good for cleaning things.

Last weekend I picked up a similar replacement nozzle made by Gilmour at Lowe's. It's a nice looking unit with the same settings as the Dramm, so I figured, why not? When I got it home and put it on the hose, I was shocked at how poorly its spray options compared to the Dramm. The "soaker" stream is much too vigorous (useless for watering potted plants), while the "jet" is wimpy compared to my old Dramm. The only setting on the Gilmour that's the least bit useful is "mist", so I'm returning it to the store and getting another Dramm from Amazon. I had figured if two products from different companies looked about the same and had the same features, they'd perform comparably. I figured wrong.

I have a commercial grade hi-pressure electric pressure washer that I use in my business and a strong, durable and crush-proof 3/4" diameter hose is essential for good continuous water flow to the pump. 5/8" simply won't permit enough flow under constant use and use of a 1/2" would quickly damage the pump.

The 25-foot length is ideal for use out here in Arizona because most homes have several garden hose bibs strategically located around the property as well as electric outlets.

While there are countless high quality 50-foot and 75-foot 3/4" hoses available in the big box stores and home centers, the shorter length of this one means less weight, easier set-up and knockdown, easier coiling up and neater storage on the washer cart.

It's a well-made garden hose that does not kink, collapse or become unruly as some quality hoses often do. It stands up to the intense heat and sunlight even while resting on blistering hot concrete.

The ends are attached securely, finished nicely and I have not experienced any leakage or drip problems at the bib end regardless of how many times I've attached and removed the hose on the job.

Amazon's price is so low that if you bought two (2) of these and attached them together to make up one 50-foot hose, they'd still cost you less than one 50-foot 3/4" quality hose in the store. Plus, you'd have the versatility and convenience of shorter hoses when you need them.

Since the 25-foot length is not available in any of the stores out here, I'm making sure I don't get caught short by ordering a second to keep as a spare.

This is 1/2" hose instead of 3/4" and I think that is a major plus for 95% of home use. I can't tell any difference between the water pressure because it is a 1/4" smaller, but it is MUCH easier to manhandle around the yard.It also rolls much more easily onto a hook or spool.

The first thing to be aware of is that the diameter of this hose is extremely small. This makes it impossible to use with most sprinklers or watering systems. I'm guessing it's 1/4 to 3/8 inch in diameter. Note it doesn't list the diameter size here which is the most important thing to consider when buying a watering hose. Other retailers list the diameter as 3/8 inch which is to small for most watering sprinklers to work properly, which I discovered by trial.Average size hoses run from 5/8, 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter. The second thing is that the coiling wears out very quickly.

Apex 6336-50 Healthy Habitat Eco-Smart and Family Safe 9/16-Inch by 50-Foot Garden Hose Review

If your kid is like my kid they'd rather drink from the hose than just about anything.I bought this with that in mind - it has the best specs of any other "drinking water safe" hose (most just meet FDA standards, this one meets the stricter California standards for about the same price).I really didn't care too much about how well it worked: my kids were mostly going to squirt each other with it, so leaking was not a concern.As it turns out this is the first hose I've bought that doesn't leak at some point.It's also pretty light weight which means my two year old can get in on the squirting action.Like any light weight hose it does kink pretty easily, but again, not really the kind of thing I was concerned about.

If you are looking for something to water your plants with you might want something heavier that kinks less.If weight is an issue then unless you get a "Marine" quality hose you won't find many that are lighter.And if you or your kids drink from the hose, why not pay a few more bucks for one that's a little healthier?(Though again, if weight is an issue most Marine hoses are FDA drinking water approved though they are the most expensive non-commercial hose you can buy).

this green 25 ft and the ocean blue 25 ft Plastair Springhose at the same time, one for the front yard and one for the back.The green one is adequate and the ocean blue one is excellent.Pay the couple extra dollars and get the ocean blue one.Truly.This green one is stiff and does not extend the whole 25 ft.It does the job and recoils fine, but I very much prefer the ocean blue one as it is far more flexible and easier to use.

This hose is "industrial-strength" and will probably last a lifetime.After going through cheaper hoses I decided to get one that will last, not kink, and can be used with my pressure washer - this one fits all of the above.

I also use them with the Nelson brass impulse head sprinklers (ASIN: B0002IKUGO) - daisychaining sprinklers from multiple hoses - as an alternative solution to an in-ground sprinkling system.

This hose is rated at pressures you may not need (500 PSI), and is constructed to be impervious to just about any chemical or temperature you will encounter in home use. The fittings are solid and mate perfectly with facets (unlike other hoses I've used).

Although these hoses are practically kink-proof, they are somewhat stiff and heavy.For sprinklers and other applications this is not a problem, but for hosing down driveways, etc. they are tiring if you are dragging it over a large area.

I view this hose as a great investment because it may be the only hose you'll ever have to buy.
